Back on the road, we head for Fremantle, and another home stay with our friends Mick, Nada and Jenna. A quick stop in at The Pinnacles (armed with fly hats…the flies were so bad!). We only went for a short walk in because we didn’t want to unhitch the van to drive through. We arrived in to Freo just ahead of peak hour and the girls quickly jumped in the pool to cool off.
As always, our stay in Freo was relaxing from the get go. Mick and Nada are the most accommodating people and nothing is too much trouble. Once again, we moved our simple belongings in to our bedroom and settled in.
As regular visitors to Freo, we spent a lot of time just catching up with Mick and Nada. We did some sightseeing but that wasn’t our main agenda. In saying that, there is so much to see around Perth and Freo. We took a trip in to the Perth Mint. The kids really enjoyed seeing the gold bullions being made, but sadly they probably enjoyed our McDonalds lunch just as much!! We caught up with Leonie and Sam Bere in Perth city too, which was a bonus for Eliza!
Another must do when in Perth is a trip to the Swan Valley Region. We planned a day trip with the Beer family, and set off for the Info Centre rendezvous point. A day trip really isn’t long enough, but with a well-planned itinerary we knew we would give it a red hot go!
We saw the Beer family drive past, and saw with excitement that the McMaths were behind them, having just arrived in Perth the previous day. Jon, Lorraine, Jasmine and Megan Bale were also along for the day, so it was shaping up for a fun-filled day out!
Our first stop was Houghtons, where we had lunch. Seafood platters and delicious wine made for a lovely visit. Also on the agenda was visits to Mann Winery, Mash Brewing Co, The House of Honey, Margaret River Chocolate Factory, Providore and Sandalford Winery. Phew! What a day!!
One of our favourite watering holes in Freo is of course Little Creatures. Once again we gathered (Gething, Beer, and McMath families) for an afternoon session. A storm saw us all duck for cover, and left the girls with the kids wondering where the boys had gone. Turns out they had snuck off for a beer tasting next door and were cosied up and dry. This was going to be where we said farewell to the Beer, McMath and Gething families, least until they were next in Vic, as we were heading south in the morning.
Jenna and Eliza had been joined at the hip for the duration of our stay, and despite Jenna’s best efforts to convince us to stay longer, we headed off the next day, sad to be leaving but excited to continue our travels. Jenna kindly gave Eliza a beautiful bike that she no longer used, so her $10 op shop special was placed out for any takers at the next park we stayed at. Thank you Jenna xx
